VA7RPV Information

Richard Vienneau

I am located in Ta Ta Creek, British Columbia, Canada.

I obtained my amateur radio license, callsign VA7RPV, in September of 2026. I graduated university in 1997 with a degree in electrical engineering but only exercised my electrical skills for a couple years while working on the development of the first wireless payment terminal in Canada. I transitioned from hardware to software and continued to work in that field for the remainder of my work career until I retired in 2025. My desire to play with hardware is what lead me to amateur radio.

Having just started with this hobby I am currently focused on VHF/UHF and DMR. Once I obtain some proficiency in these areas I hope to explore HF technology. I am also setting up a Meshtastic network with integration to server functionality including home automation.

I am a member of the EKARC amateur radio club.

I am also involved in RC airplane and FPV drone flying through our local club the EKRC Flyers.
